The major fund-raiser for The Jenna Foundation for Non-Violence is Jenna’s Sweet Charity Ball, held during autumn of each year. We are pleased to report a successful event during 2007 with much gratitude to our sponsors, auction donors and attendees and are already busy planning for 2008. The proceeds from the Sweet Charity Ball, and Silent Auction held that night, are used to directly support The Foundation’s mentoring program as well as our work to further safety and education initiatives.
The Jenna Foundation is looking for individuals and businesses to support the Sweet Charity Ball in two ways:
• First, we need businesses to help underwrite the event as Corporate Sponsors. We can provide potential sponsors with an information packet that includes different levels of sponsorship, ranging from $500 to $10,000, and our corresponding recognition, as well as general information about the event and Foundation.
• Second, Silent Auction Donations are needed. Donors of items for the Silent Auction are recognized in the program. Donations may include merchandise, gift certificates, trips, etc.
Call (315) 422-0339 for reservations and more information.

Janice Grieshaber and Don McPherson Co-Chair Annual Event
for National Center for Victims of Crime
Jenna Foundation executive director Janice Grieshaber recently served as co-chair for the annual leadership award reception sponsored by the National Center for Victims of Crime. Held on May 15, 2007 at the Bryant Park Grill in New York City, the event was also co-chaired by Donald McPherson, longtime foundation supporter and ongoing contributor to our "Mentors for Jenna" program. This year the Annual Leadership Award was presented to Montel Williams for his extraordinary leadership on behalf of victims of crime. Through his nationally-syndicated television talk show, Mr. Williams has distinguished himself in the media by treating crime victims with respect and dignity while raising public awareness about the realities of violent crime. He has also developed the "After Care" program where victims receive personalized support after appearing on the television show. This occasion was the first time Janice and Mr. Williams met since she appeared on the "Montel Williams Show" at the time of the historic passage of "Jenna's Law." |

Driscoll, Mayor of the City of Syracuse, offered a welcome to participants and guests.
Victim advocate Martin Andrews of Virginia served as guest speaker, through a sponsorship by the National Office for Victims of Crime. Janice Grieshaber Named "Woman of Distinction"
Senator John A. DeFrancisco (R-I-C-WF, Syracuse) announced that Janice Grieshaber, the Executive Director of the Jenna Foundation for Non-Violence, has been named the 2006 “Woman of Distinction” for the 50th Senate District. Janice was recognized during a June 20, 2006 ceremony in Albany, New York.
“I am proud to honor the many contributions of Janice Grieshaber,” said Senator DeFrancisco. “She has been a wonderful inspiration to many in our Central New York community. Janice has persevered in the midst of her own tragedy. After losing her daughter, Jenna, Janice used that adversity to become a true advocate for all victims. Through her efforts with the Jenna Foundation she has helped the families of many victims take their messages to Albany. She continues to work to protect the rights of innocent victims and to help make our neighborhoods a safer and better place. She should be commended for her dedication to helping others in their time of need, enriching the lives of others and for helping to improve the quality of life for all Central New Yorkers through her unwavering determination and advocacy.”
Senator DeFrancisco and his Senate Majority Colleagues started the “Women Of Distinction” program in 1998 as a way to recognize the contributions of women in New York State who have enhanced the lives of those around them and who, through their achievements, have inspired their communities.
The “Women of Distinction” program was created as part of the State Senate’s celebration of Women’s History Month. The Senate will honor women from Central New York and throughout the State at an Albany reception. In addition to the ceremony, each honoree’s photograph and biography will be displayed in an exhibit proclaiming the special contributions of each “Woman of Distinction.”

Our “Jenna’s Mentors,” area high school students, are special volunteers for the Foundation. Once again it’s time to say farewell (but never goodbye!) to our seniors, and we are delighted to recognize those who have received awards and scholarships as they graduate. That they have been part of our mentoring program is in itself a distinction and we congratulate all of our seniors for making a difference in the lives of the fifth-graders they have worked with in the program.
